I'm having an odd problem. I have an AMD HD 7700, and I am trying to update my drivers.
AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series - Driver Download. Updating your drivers with Driver Alert can help your computer in a number of ways. From adding new. AMD Crossfire™, OpenCL™, and AMD Eyefinity are not supported by the AMD Radeon™ HD 7900, Radeon HD 7800 and Radeon HD 7700 Series GPUs on Windows® XP. New technologies introduced with these GPUs are not compatible with the Windows XP (released 2001) operating system, and are designed to work on current operating systems.
The problem is when I tried to update them outright with the new driver set using the 'clean install' option, all I got was a black screen. I figured there must have been some issue with prior drivers, so I downloaded AMD's cleaner program, and ran that. From there it got a little weird. My card wouldn't display, so I took it out and tried to use the file I manually found and selected from the AMD Driver site to update my cards drivers and then pop it back in, should have been simple right?
Well, when I go to install the drivers, it wont let me install them because it auto searches for my card, and since it's out due to the display issue, I can't seem to install these drivers Does AMD keep a website where I can download the driver files directly, instead of this auto searching trash? Even when you use the 'find your drivers manually' function on their website, it still takes you to the auto finder. Use this to uninstall any remaining drivers first then put the gpu back in. You could try using this old driver Well, I tried both of your suggestions, and unfortunately neither helped. I uninstalled all of my drivers using DDU in safe mode, popped my card back in and just simply got a blank screen. Next I took the card back out, and using the integrated hardware, I was able to install the driver set you linked too, but again, this only produced a black screen when I popped my card back in. This is not the first time I have tried to update these drivers to no avail.
Usually I just use a system restore point to get the card to at least function again after a failed driver installation, but rather inconveniently my long standing system restore point that I use is no longer available. If it helps, here is my exact card And my DXDiagnostic txt file (Showing my integrated gpu) Non tinyurl link of DxDiag.txt since I know some do not like to use tinyurl. 15.7.1 is a great choice for Legacy products like HD7600 and lower, because it's the last Catalyst ever so you don't need to ever worry about some update borking things later, plus the only Crimson driver released for these was a terrible beta. Unfortunately if you manually install Catalyst on the still supported HD7770, WindowsUpdate will 'helpfully' upgrade just your drivers to the latest Crimson versions-which will of course BSOD with the old Catalyst Control Center. So for your 64-bit Windows 8.1 you normally should be running one of The problem is your HD7540D IGP is a Legacy device that needs the older drivers, while your discrete HD7770 card can use the newer ones which are incompatible (a LOT of the.dll files have the same names and go into the same Windows folders so invariably one of those cards won't work).
The cleanest solution would be to use the older driver and force Windows to never update them. It's enough to make you buy nVidia. The black screen could also be due to the driver autodetecting your monitor's optimal settings improperly. When it happens, can you reboot into safe or low-resolution mode? And just making sure, when you have the black screen the monitor cable is plugged into the GPU not IGP, right?
BTW you can't install the drivers when the card is not inserted, as the only thing that actually gets installed then is the control panel. You can do it when the card is installed but the only monitor cable is attached to the IGP.
